Citizens Community Center
Huxley, Iowa

The Citizens Community Center is a multi-functioning building that incorporates city offices, a police station, a gymnasium with a suspended running track and a racquetball court. One of the main emphases of the project was to create a building that is sustainable in design. The community center incorporates daylighting, energy efficient T-5 fluorescent lamps, and a geothermal HVAC system. The building design includes many environmental products such as recycled rubber flooring, linoleum and strawboard at the gymnasium walls. 

This project was completed with the cooperation between the city of Huxley and the Ballard Community School District. The building is a joint-use facility. The city is paying for the construction costs, while the school is renting out space and providing some maintenance services.
